GUWAHATI: The Annual General Meeting of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) was held today in a city hotel. President of the association Sarbananda Sonowal presided over the meeting which was attended by the members of the different state and district sports associations.

The meeting decided to reintroduce State Games in October –November and Jorhat will organize the event. On the other hand Assam Olympic Association will organize the State Youth Olympic in July in Guwahati. Another major event- CM State Inter University Games will also be introduced by the Assam Olympic Association in the State and it will be held in Guwahati in January next year.

Releasing the new calendar of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar, the secretary of the association, said, "Apart from three major events the association will also introduce two special Awards- Best Sports Association and Best Sports Organizer- in the name of RG Baruah. The athletes who will bring laurels from the international arena will also be felicitated during the RG Baruah Award function.

Konwar also added that on the Olympic Day the association will organize quiz and extempore speech competitions at the Cotton College.

The treasurer of the Assam Olympic Association Tapan Das informed the house that nearly Rs 4 crore 26 lakh is earmarked as the budget for the 2022-23 year.

The meeting also decided to publish a book on the international players of the State.

Meanwhile the Assam Olympic Association today ceased the affiliation of Silchar DSA for involving unconstitutional activities by its committee. Konwar said, "On several occasions Silchar DSA violated the rules and after repeated instructions they failed to rectify their errors although they admitted their fault." A five-member committee was formed to look after the different matter of the Silchar DSA.

Apart from Sonowal and Konwar the meeting was attended by the Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association Bhubaneswar Kalita, the Vice Presidents of the Assam Olympic Association Siddhartha Bhattacharyya and Rupak Sarma respectively, the President of the Nagaon Sports Association Rajen Gohain and President of the Assam Cricket Association Romen Dutta.
