GUWAHATI: Assam is sending an 18-member contingent to the Junior National Judo Championship comprising eight boys and seven girls on Wednesday, December 14.
A formal reception was held for the team at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati before leaving for the tournament. The team also received special kits ahead of the competition. Arjuna Award-winning lawn bowl player Nayanmoni Saikia was also present as a guest during the formal send-off. She wished the players to do well in the tournament. She was also felicitated by the senior members of the All Assam Judo Association. President of All Assam Judo Association, Sailen Deka and Secretary Zaffarudin Khan were also present for the event.
This year's Junior National Judo Championship will flag off on December 16 and end on December 20. Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand will play host to this tournament.
The Junior Women category consists of girls of age above 15 years and below 21 years. The members are Jyotilota Deori (below 44 kg ), Monisha Dutta (below 48 kg ), Soniya Basumatary (below 52 kg ), Bharasha Basumatary (below 57 kg ), Anisha Basumatary (below 63 kg ), Manaka Basumatary (below 70 kg ) and Dharitri Sonowal (below 78 kg). Coach Bikash Gohain and Manager Rupa Dutta will be travelling with the team.
The Junior Men category will consist of boys above 15 years and below 21 years of age. Jorsh Narzary (below 55 kg ), Abhijit Boro (below 60 kg ), Indralabh Sharma (below 66 kg ), Rohitson Ronghang (below 73 kg ), Joydeep Nath (below 81 kg ), Lakhya Jyoti Gogoi (below 90 kg), Sankar Jyoti Saikia (below 100 kg ) and Chanakya Gogoi (above 100 kg ). Coach Muktar Ahmad and Manager Putul Sonowal will also accompany the men's team for this tournament.
