GUWAHATI: Bud Cricket Club of Guwahati lifted the 3rd Assam Premier Club Championship title defeating Club Triranga of Barpeta in a well contested final by 10 runs in Dibrugarh today.
Chasing 163 runs to win Club Triranga managed to score 152-5 in their stipulated 35 overs.
Bud, elected to bat, scored 162-5 in their 35 overs. Sarupam Purkayastha was the chief architect of Bud's innings. The middle order batsman today scored 57 runs in 82 balls. Veteran Parag Das also played a crucial unbeaten 38 runs (30 balls) knock later of the innings.
During their run chase Manash Gogoi (48) of Club Triranga tried his best to take Barpeta's outfit to home but the innings was not enough as the batsman didn't get support from the other end.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the closing function as chief guest and also distributed the prizes. Talking to the media persons in the side line of the function Chief Minister appreciated the effort of Assam Cricket Association to organise a tournament of the stature of Assam Premier Club Championship. He hoped that many young players would come out from the grassroots to bring laurels at the national and international level in the cricketing field.
Champion Bud Cricket club received cash award of Rs 15 lakh while the runners up Club Triranga collected a purse of Rs 7.5 lakh. Two losing semi finalists-Saptarshi Club and Cricket club of Dibgrugarh- were awarded Rs 5 lakh each.
Individual awards: Man of the tournament- Sarupam Purkayastha (Bud Cricket Club). Best Batsman - Soumyadeep Das (Tip Top Club, Hojai). Best Bowler - Nihar Paul (Everest Club, Lakhipur), Best Wicket-Keeper - Ankush Mazumdar (Cricket Club of Dibrugarh), Best Fielder- Denish Das (Triranga Club, Barpeta), Man of the Match (Final) - Sarupam Purkayastha (Bud Cricket Club).
