GUWAHATI: Assam registered first win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Cricket Trophy this season when they defeated Uttarakhand by 7 wickets at Saurashtra today. The star of the day was captain Mrimoy Dutta who bagged four wickets that included a hat-trick.
Elected to field, Assam put good pressure on the opponent during the early part of the innings and removed both the openers when the score was just 4. But two good knocks from Piyush Joshi (43) and Swapnil Singh (52) helped the side to put fighting total on the board. The duo took the teams total from 56 to 135. However Assam came back strongly at that point and Uttarakhand lost their last four wickets in four consecutive balls in the final overs and they were 144-9 when 20th overs of their innings came to an end. Mrinmoy, bowled last over of the innings, picked up three wickets in his third, fourth and fifth balls to complete his hat-trick. The other batsman got run out on the final ball.
