Gandhinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is mulling to launch kabbadi and cricket tournaments in Gujarat's Gandhinagar -- the Lok Sabha constituency represented by Union Home Minister Amit Shah -- named after Article 370.
According to a report, this tournament will be named Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Premier League 370 (GLPL 370). According to a few local leaders, the purpose of this tournament is to attract more and more youth to the party.
While speaking to the national English daily, Jeetubhai Patel, general secretary of Ahmedabad City BJP unit, said that the series has been named after Article 370, which was abolished in the year 2019 under the leadership of Amit Shah.
''The plan is to start the tournament in mid-December,'' he added.
According Indian Express, BJP in-charge of Gandhinagar Lok Sabha parliamentary seat Harshad Patel said that this program is being organized to make them (youth) voters whose names are in the voter list pro-BJP.
''Cricket and Kabaddi have been chosen for this. The target is to have at least two teams (one each for cricket and kabaddi) from each ward,'' he was quoted as saying.
As per the Patel, Home Minister had earlier discussed this (idea) with 8-10 people in the party.
Gujarat MoS Jagdish Vishwakarma has been given the task of planning this tournament.
BJP's state unit general secretary Pradeep Singh Vaghela said that an entire team from the Lok Sabha constituency is involved. There are plans to organize one kabaddi tournament for the entire constituency and seven cricket tournaments for each of its seven assembly constituencies. Team's registration is already underway.
