GUWAHATI: Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw played a sensational knock against Assam in the Ranji Trophy at Amingaon Cricket Ground and hit the second individual highest innings in the history of the competition. The batter today got out on 379 and now only Bhausaheb Nimbalkar, who scored an unbeaten 443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar back in December 1948, was ahead of him.
Shaw resumed from his overnight score of 240 and started to dominate over the Assam bowlers in the same style as he did yesterday. The batter added 139 runs off 99 balls in his overnight score before getting out for 379 off the bowling of Riyan Parag. Shaw hit 49 boundaries and four sixes in his 383-ball knock. It was the 9th occasion when a batter scored 350 plus runs in a Ranji trophy innings.
Other overnight not out batter Ajinkya Rahane also dominated today and smashed the bowlers across the park to score a century. He also reached close to score a double-ton but got out on the bowling of Riyan Parag on his individual score of 191. The batter faced 302 balls and there were 15 boundaries and two sixes in his innings. The third-wicket partnership between Rahane and Shaw produced 401 runs and Mumbai later declared their first innings 687-4.
Assam made a good start in their run chase and were 129-1 in their first innings at stumps on day II. The first wicket partnership between Subham Mandal (40) and Rahul Hazarika produced 79 runs. Later in the unbeaten second wicket partnership Rahul Hazarika (60) and Rishav Das (26) added 50 runs before the day's play came to an end.
