GUWAHATI: Rode on a terrific century from Riyan Parag, Assam thrashed Sikkim by a huge margin of 180 runs in the Vijaya Hazare Cricket in Kolkata today.
Invited to bat, Assam scored 307-8 in their 50 overs. Sikkim bowled out 127 in 36 overs.
Captain Kumal Saikia (11) today opened the innings with Subham Mondal (15) but the openers failed to give a good start to Assam. However, once Riyan came into the wicket and Sibsankar Roy gave support during the initial period of his innings the scenario changed quickly.
Riyan played 93 balls to score 128 with the help of five boundaries and seven sixes. Sibsankar, who came into bat at number three position, contributed 50 and there are seven hits to the fence. The duo on the third wicket partnership added 44 runs. Riyan later made another two good partnerships with Amlanjyoti Das and Swarupam Purkayastha. With Amlanjyoti (47 runs, 4X3, 6X2) Riyan added 82 runs on fifth wicket and sixth wicket partnership between Riyan and Sarupam Purkayastha (34) produced 88 runs.
Sikkim were never in the game when they started to chase Assam's total as they were quickly reduced to 30-6. Palzor Tamang (40) and Lee Young Lepcha (36) made the total a little respectable. Sunil Lachit (3-33) came out with the best bowling figures for Assam.
