GUWAHATI: Right arm spinner Riyan Parag put Assam in the comfort zone on Day II in the Ranji Trophy tie against Vidarbha at Lalhi today. Riyan (5-68) came out with his best bowling figure in first class cricket and Vidarbha were 266-9 at stumps on Friday. They are still trailing by 50 runs.

Vidarbha started the day from their overnight score 10-0 in the first innings. The opening pair F Fazal and S Ramaswamy added 55 runs on the board before Ramaswamy (20) was removed by Hridip Deka. But Assam didn't get too much advantage by the fall of this wicket as Fazal and first down batsman Atharve Taide nicely negotiate the bowler and added 89 on the second wicket. When it looked like that Assam were losing the grip Riyan came into the scene and picked up Atharva (42) when the total was 144. Thereafter Vidarbha lost wicket on regular intervals. Riyan led the team in bowling and he picked up four more wickets during the remaining part of the day. The performance helped Riyan to better his previous record in first class cricket (3-60). Arup Das, Mukhtar Hussain, Hridip and Siddharth Sarma bagged one wicket each in the first innings. Opener Fazal was the top scorer for Vidarbha and he put 82 runs on the board with the help of nine boundaries. Atharva's 42 was the second best knock in the innings.

Meanwhile at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, Tamil Nadu took 59 runs first innings lead against Jharkhand on day II in a Ranji Trophy tie today. In reply to Tamil Nadu's first innings total 285 Jharkhand ended their first innings 226. M Siddharth (4-37) and Shahrukh Khan (3-36) bagged most of the wickets in the first innings. Tamil Nadu finished the day at 2-15 and are leading by 74 runs.

At the ACA Stadium, Barsapara Delhi, in reply to Chhattisgarh's first innings total 482-9 (dec), scored 108-3 in their first innings at stumps on day II. Two Chhattisgarh's batsmen- Amandeep Khare (156 no) and Shashank Singh (122) scored century in the first innings. Vikash Mishra (6-124) was the most successful bowler for Delhi.
