NEW DELHI: In a remarkable year for Shubman Gill, the talented Indian cricketer has secured the ICC Men's Player of the Month Award for the second time in 2023. Gill's outstanding performances in September were recognized with this prestigious honor, further cementing his status as one of India's rising stars. His contributions were pivotal in India's success in the Asia Cup and the ODI series against Australia.

Shubman Gill's achievement goes beyond the monthly recognition, as he now stands as the first Indian cricketer to claim the ICC Player of the Month Award multiple times. His previous win in January 2023 was attributed to his outstanding performance in scoring a maiden double century in ODI cricket.

The 24-year-old cricketer, who unfortunately missed the first two matches of India's World Cup campaign due to dengue fever, has been the leading run-scorer in ODIs for the year 2023, amassing an impressive 1230 runs, including five centuries.

During the Asia Cup, Gill's bat was on fire as he led his team to victory. He commenced the month with noteworthy half-centuries against Nepal and Pakistan. However, it was his century against Bangladesh in Colombo that truly stood out. In a low-scoring final, Gill remained steadfast, ensuring his team's triumph by chasing down a target of 51 runs.

Gill continued his exceptional form in the subsequent series against Australia, contributing significantly with scores of 74 runs in Mohali and a sublime 104 in Indore, all at a brisk run rate.

Throughout September, Shubman Gill accumulated a staggering 480 runs at an impressive average of 80, coupled with a strike rate of 99.37.

Reacting to this prestigious ICC honor, Gill expressed his delight and motivation to perform even better in India's upcoming matches. He attributed his success to the privilege of representing his country and contributing to the team's victories. Gill extended his gratitude to his teammates, family, and coaches for their indispensable support in achieving this milestone.

Having recovered from dengue, Shubman Gill rejoined the Indian squad and was seen practicing in Ahmedabad, where the much-anticipated clash against Pakistan in the World Cup 2023 is scheduled for October 14. However, his participation in this pivotal match remains uncertain.

India commenced their World Cup campaign on home soil with victories against Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in New Delhi, and fans are eagerly anticipating Gill's potential return to the field in this high-stakes encounter.
