MELBOURNE: West Indies head coach Phil Simmons will step down from his post in the wake of his side's debacle in the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. The two-time T20 world champions were eliminated in the preliminary stage following losses to Scotland and Ireland, with the only saving grace being a 31-run win against Zimbabwe.

West Indies finished fourth and last in Group B and failed to progress to the Super 12 stage here.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed Simmons will be stepping down from his role as head coach of the national men's side following the team's exit from the global event.

The 59-year-old former West Indies allrounder's last assignment will be the two-Test series against Australia from November 30 to December 12. IANS
