GUWAHATI: Star boxer Lovlina Borgohain feels positive thinking, hunger for success, disciplined life and focus on the goal are some of the factors that a sports person needs to follow to become successful in his life.
Interacting with the young players at the SAI Regional Centre, Guwahati this morning, the Asian Games silver medal winner said: “From my experience I can say that these are some of the factors which you require to follow during your entire part of your career. If you can do it I am sure one day you will bring laurels for the country from various International events.”
Lovlina, who spent early part of her boxing career at the SAI Regional Centre in Guwahati, today visited the place and also interacted with the trainees. Recalling her days at the centre the boxer said, “At the early stage of my career the facilities were very limited but now the scenario has changed. I hope local trainees will be highly benefited from it.”
Initially Lovlina was associated with martial arts before she joined boxing. The boxer today admitted that her early part of boxing career was not so memorable as most of the opponents used her like a punching bag due to lack of experience in the game. “But after joining the national camp after winning the Sub Junior National Boxing I decided to learn the game seriously and started to talk with the coaches on a regular basis. You can say my career witnessed a huge turn thereafter,” Lovlina said.
She also said that success demanded a lot of discipline. Replying to a question from a young trainee, the boxer said, “After a certain period of time a player needs to become his own coach and should push himself to follow the daily routine. At the same time you have to always stay positive even if you are not doing well in your sports. Positive thinking helps to overcome the trouble periods and it happens many times with me. A player also needs to follow a disciplined life and should not compromise with daily routine on any condition.”
Meanwhile, talking with The Sentinel, Lovlina today admitted that she was extremely happy to play the flag bearer role of the Indian contingent during the inaugural ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games. “I watched Mary Kom didi to carry the national flag in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and since then it was in my mind. So I was really happy when I was told to do the role.”
Today’s event was also attended by Executive Director of the SAI Regional Centre, Guwahati Satyajit Sankrit. The boxer was felicitated by the SAI Regional Centre at the same function.
