Assam mountaineer Hedayat Ali, who recently conquered Mount Everest, was felicitated today by City based organization Explorers in a brief function held in a city hotel. Assam Olympic Association also felicitated the mountaineer in the same function.
Addressing the gathering Ali today said, " I was dreaming to scale Mount Everest since I first participated in an expedition at Sikkim at the age of 15. There after a couple of occasions, last time in 2021, I tried to climb the highest peak of the earth but wasn't successful due to different reasons. However my family always encouraged me and due to it I finally scaled Mount Everest at the age of 50 plus.
Sharing his final moment in the expedition Ali said, " I started from camp IV on May 11 around 7-30 PM and reached the summit at 8-30 on May 12. The entire part of the trekking was very challenging as a minor error could end my life. So I decided to stay calm and faced all the challenges that would come on my way. I admit, touching the peak is an unforgettable memory for me."
The function was attended by the president and the secretary of Explorers Rajiv Prakash Baruah and Pranoy Bordoloi respectively, the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar and the president of the Assam Sports Journalists' Association Subodh Malla Baruah.
