GUWAHATI: Assam became the most successful team in golf event of ongoing North East Olympic Games in Shillong. Out of 8 categories, Assam won gold medals in five cetegories. The four-day golf event came to an end today at Ground MFA Turf.
Assam team comprising Snigdha Goswami, Jakir Hussain, Biki Datta and Sanjeev Jaiwal won the Team event. Meghalaya and Manipur claimed the next two positions respectively.
Jakir Hussain, contunuing his good form, claimed another gold medal in Mid-Amateur category ahead of Dr KI Singh (Meghalaya) and Gaurav Bajaj (Meghalaya).
Snigdha Goswami doubled her glory by winning the Ladies event where she defeated Jyoti Agarwal (Meghalaya) and Pooja Goenka (Meghalaya), who got the next two positions respectively.
Deben Bhumij won the Professional category where another Assam golfer Deepraj Chetia took the bronze medal.
Later, Snigdha Goswami won another gold medal in Overall Individual category where Jakir Hussain grabbed the Silver.
Moreover, Biki Datta gave Assam a silver medal in Amateur event. Jasson Passah of Meghalaya claimed the Gold in this category. Nagesh Singh stood third in Super Senior category.
With overall 9 medals including 5 Gold, Assam became the most successful gold team of North East region. Hosts Meghalaya, who fought well against Assam golfers, shone with 11 medals including only one gold medal. Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh lifted other two gold medals.
