Indian Men Secure Next Edition’s Champions Division Berth

New Delhi: Indian men paddlers, despite failing to go past the quarterfinal stage when they went down 1-3 to Japan in a late-night match on Monday, reserved their Champions Division berth in the next edition on Tuesday.

This became possible when they defeated Singapore 3-0 in Positions 5-8 match of the 24th ITTF Asian Table Tennis Championships at Yogyakarta on Tuesday morning as India will take on Hong Kong in the match for the fifth position, to be played on Wednesday. Hong Kong defeated Iran 3-1.

For the first time, irrespective of the results, the Indian men have secured a quarterfinal spot in the Champions Division as the top-six finishers gain direct entry in the next Championships, two years hence. IANS
