India sit on top of medals tally with 20 medals

LIMA: Top pistol shooter Manu Bhaker bagged her fourth gold as Indian continued its domination of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru, bagging a gold and silver medal on the eighth day of competition. India also won two silver medals on an eventful day on Wednesday.

The Indian junior women's sports pistol team comprising Manu Bhaker, Rhythm Sangwan and newly crowned world junior champion in the individual women's sports pistol Naamya Kapoor, dominated proceedings in the 25m pistol team women junior competition on Wednesday beating USA 16-4 in the gold medal match.

This was Manu's fourth gold of the competition to go with one bronze, while it was the 14-year old Naamya's second gold of the championship.

India picked up a silver medal in the 25m rapid fire pistol junior men competition when Adarsh Singh fell short of USA's Henry Turner Leverett in the six-man final.

India won its 20th medal in the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru, when the men's trap team secured silver, going down to Italy 4-6, in the gold medal match.

The trio of Bakhtyaruddin Malek, Shardul Vihan and Vivaan Kapoor had qualified for the match after placing second out of seven teams in qualification, with a combined score of 473 out of 525. Italy was strong throughout the competition having topped qualification with a huge 486, late on Wednesday night.

The junior women's trap team though missed out on a medal when Kirti Gupta, Aadya Tripathi and Divya Singh went down 2-6 to Germany in the bronze medal match.

After disastrous outings in the Tokyo Olympics a few weeks back, the Indian shooters seem to have got their winning touch back as they continued to reap a rich medal harvest in Lima.

The gold and two silver medals on Wednesday takes India's tally to nine gold, eight silver and three bronze medals as the maintained its position atop the rankings table. IANS
