Ladakh: The first-ever Khelo India - Zanskar Winter Sports & Youth Festival 2021 will be conducted from January 15 to January 30 in the beautiful valley of Zanskar. The state president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal shared pictures on his Twitter account, informing that the long-awaited Chadar Trek is finally ready.
He wrote, "Long-awaited Chadar Trek is finally ready. Myself is planning to lead "Khelo India - 1st Zanskar Winter Sports & Youth Festival 2021" staring from Chadar Trek over a sheet of thick ice of frozen River of Zanskar. #ChaloZanskar #KheloIndia."
Replying to Namgyal's tweeted, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju said that he too is ready for the Chadar Trek. However, he wonders what if someone slips inside the crack thick ice in the frozen Zanskar River. He reassured the people that his Ministry is working with the Ladakh Administration to make this festival a successful one.
"I'm also ready for the Chadar Trek but what will happen if one slips inside those cracked thick ice in the frozen Zanskar River..! My Ministry is working out with Ladakh UT Administration to make "Khelo India - 1st Zanskar Winter Sports & Youth Festival 2021" a successful," Union Minister Rijiju replied.
The objective of this first-ever winter sports and youth festival in Zanskar valley is to highlight and further promote Zanskar as a popular tourist destination. The Secretary of Youth Services and Sports of Ladakh Union Territory, Ravinder Kumar shared that the attraction of this winter sports festival which includes Chadar trek, ice hockey, meditation and yoga on snow, snow skiing, snow sculpting, snow scooter and hiking, ice climbing, traditional and modern archery along with local food festival, and cultural programme.
Meanwhile, various initiative under the Khelo India programme has been initiated in the country. Khelo India programme has become a brand that everyone including girls and boys wants to be a part of. It is now the most popular sporting event in the country.
