GUWAHATI: Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju will be meeting Sports and Youth Affairs Ministers of all states and Union Territories (UT) in a two-day video conference from tomorrow. The states have been divided into two groups to cover the two days to allow every participant time to discuss their issues during the meeting. Assam will attend the meeting on Tuesday.
The agenda of the meeting includes review of action taken during COVID-19 as well as discussions on restarting sporting activities at the state-level.
The sports activities of the country became standstill once lockdown was imposed to combat COVID-19 in March. However the different national camps were recently resumed. Now Union Sports Ministry wants to know whether sports activities in the State and UT can be resumed or not.
Rijiju in a statement said that as the second phase of unlock has begun so it is important to have a discussion with the states to align the way forward for sports and youth related activities.
The meeting will also discuss on several other subjects including inclusion of fitness and sports as part of the curriculum in all schools across the country and plans to conduct Khelo India events and Youth Festivals later this year or early next year.
