PARIS: Kylian Mbappe scored a brace on Saturday as Paris Saint-Germain hammered tailender Dijon 4-0 to throw the pressure to title contenders Lille and Lyon, who will play on Sunday.
The French international, two-time Ligue 1 golden boot winner, added his league tally of the season to 18 goals with the double, while Moise Kean and Danilo Pereira also scored.
"I think it was a very professional performance in the squad's approach to the game," said PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino. "I think that with the very difficult circumstances the team put in a good performance and we were very solid."
The Argentine coach suffered his second defeat since taking charge of the French club last week in a 2-0 defeat to Mbappe's former side Monaco.
The defending champion, who has played one more game, currently ranks the second with one point off pace-setter Lille, who hosts Strasbourg this matchday, and two ahead of third-placed Lyon, who travels to Marseille in the focus match of this round.
Meanwhile, Dijon is still languishing at the bottom of the standings, eight points adrift of the other two relegated-threatened sides Nantes and Lorient.
Also on Saturday, Vagner Goncalves scored a late winning goal to secure a 2-1 victory for Metz at Bordeaux. Samuel Kalu put the host in front in the 14th minute and Thomas Delaine levelled the score for Metz in the second half, before Goncalves struck the winner in the stoppage time. Agencies
