3rd edition of Khelo India Games to begin as per schedule from January 10

GUWAHATI: The 3rd edition of Khelo India will begin as per schedule from January 10. The athletes will compete in a total of 20 sports including new additions- lawn bowls and cycling. Over 10,000 athletes, officials and support staff will participate in the meet.

The state recently witnessed huge protest against CAA which made the situation unrest. It created doubt about the beginning of the Game on time. But putting all speculations to rest Avinash Joshi, the CEO of the Games, today said that the preparation is on right track and the Game will kick off as per schedule on January 10. Altogether 11 venues would be used for the Games.

“We are ready for the Khelo India Game. The Chef De Mission of all the states, who inspected our infrastructure today, expressed full satisfaction and we have not received any concern related to security from any quarter,” said Joshi.

The Game will officially begin on January 10 but the events will start from January 9. Joshi added: “The Game will begin with a gala opening ceremony which is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A couple of Bollywood celebrity may also be the part of the opening function which will be held at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium with 90 minutes duration.”

Meanwhile the final phase of the preparation of Assam team got under way in different venues from today. It would be continued till the start of the game.
