GUWAHATI: Assam started to make progress in the medal tally in the 3rd Khelo India Games as the host collected 6 medals including two gold on Monday and elevated them to 13th position with 12 medals. Among the 6 medals two were gold which were won by Gongutri Bordoloi in cycling and 4X100m relay team. The other medals included two silver and two bronze. Relay team (U-21 boys) comprised of Bhum Machahary, Pallab Gogoi, Rajib Brahma and Subarna Kalita, finished the race 42.45 sec that ensured first gold medal for Assam in the athletic event.
In cycling Gongutri collected gold medal in the U-21 60km Individual Road Race with 2:11:52.16 timing. Her teammate Chayanika Gogoi (2:11:52.31) bagged bronze in the same event.
Among the two silver medals one was collected by Hriday Hazarika in 10m Air Rifle while U-17 boys team (Swmkwr Islary, Jwngsar Basumatary,Chinmoy Baruah and Akshary Boro) bagged a silver in the 4X100m race. Judoka Salim Ahmed gave a bronze medal in the 55 kg category in Men U-21 event.
Meanwhile, Assam today registered victories in the girls U-17 and U-21 football. In the U-21 Assam thrashed Punjab by 9-0 while in the U-17 won 3-2 against Jharkhand. Girls U-17 team also beat Punjab 3-1 in the hockey.
