68 candidates in fray for Assam Olympic Association (AOA) Posts

GUWAHATI: Altogether 68 candidates filed nomination papers for the 22 posts of the Assam Olympic Association. The last date of withdraw is October 30 and if necessary the election would be held during the AGM of the association which will be held in the city on November 10.

Disclosing the news to the media the returning officer Bijan Mahajan today said, “68 candidates filed nomination papers and all are found valid. The last date of withdrawal is October 30 and if necessary the election will be held on November 10.”

Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal already elected unopposed for the post of president. However several ministers, MLA and MP are in the fray for other posts. Altogether 28 candidates filed nomination for the 10 posts of Vice President. On the other hand seven candidates have come forward to contest for the general Secretary post. Contest is likely for the posts of treasurer, joint secretary and assistant secretary.

It may be mentioned here that representatives of 32 state Sports Associations and 25 District Sports Association will attend the Annual General Meeting of the Assam Olympic Association. Due to technical reason the Assam Wrestling Association was dropped from the Electoral College in the last minutes.
