GUWAHATI: Assam Cricket Association today handed over newly introduced Annual Awards in a glittering function held at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara here on Friday evening. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the function as a Chief Guest and also distributed the awards.
In his speech Sonowal felt that these annual awards will definitely boost the players in the future.
Several awards were handed over this evening to the players and teams. Among them three were very special.
ACA introduced three special awards namely Best Player of the Season award, Best Coach award and Most Promising Cricketer award. Pace bowler Ranjit Mali bagged the Best Player of the Season award while Dasarath Kumar collected the Most Promising Player award. Former Ranji coach Subhrajit Saikia received the award of the Best Coach. Apart from that the players who had excelled in the season 2019-20 was awarded prizes and cash incentives for scoring a century and capturing 10 wickets in a match and 5 wickets in an innings.
Many top officials of the Assam Cricket Association including President Romen Dutta and General Secretary Devajit Saikia along with current and former cricketers attended the function which was held inside the stadium under floodlight. Nearly Rs 85 lakh were distributed among the players and clubs this evening. Assam Cricket Association also handed over cricket equipment including bowling machine to the different cricket academies.
The meeting also observed one minute silence for young cricketer Bibhakar Nag who died in an accident at Bokajan waterfall during the lockdown.
