GUWAHATI: Ace boxer from Assam Lovlina Borgohain, who is selected for Arjuna Award this year, has said that it's an honour for her and this award will motivate her to perform better in the coming years.

Union Sports Ministry on Friday announced the list of athletes who will be conferred with the National Sports Awards. Altogether 27 athletes are selected this year for the Arjuna Award.

Talking exclusively to The Sentinel after the formal announcement of the news Lovlina, who is now at Patiala, said, "I am extremely delighted to hear the news. It's a huge honour and will motivate me to perform even better in the upcoming years including the Olympics."

It will be the sixth occasions when a sportsperson from Assam has been selected for the Arjuna Award. Earlier Bhogeswar Baruah, Monalisa Barua Mehta, Jayanta Talukdar, Shiva Thapa and Hima Das were conferred this prestigious award.

It may be mentioned here that Lovlina today flew to Patiala to join the national camp. The camp is recently started under the supervision of Indian Boxing's High Performance Director Santiago Nieva.

Meanwhile the secretary of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association Hemanta Kalita today congratulated Lovlina for her selection for the prestigious Arjuna Award. In a brief reaction Kalita said, "Congratulations to Lovlina! It's really a proud moment for us. Now we have produced two Arjuna awardees from the State."

Commenting on Lovlina's chances in the next Olympics the secretary said, "She is working hard to win a medal from Olympic and she is very much capable to do it. This award will motivate her in a very big way to make podium finish in Japan next year."
