Assam: 8th Samarendra Rajkumar Veterans Tennis begins at Jorhat Tennis Club

The 8th Samarendra Rajkumar Veterans Tennis Tournament got under way at the Jorhat Tennis Club (JTC) on Saturday. Dr Ranjit Baruah, former Head of the Department of Orthopedics, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh and an eminent sportsperson, inaugurated the tournament.

JORHAT: The 8th Samarendra Rajkumar Veterans Tennis Tournament got under way at the Jorhat Tennis Club (JTC) on Saturday. Dr Ranjit Baruah, former Head of the Department of Orthopedics, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh and an eminent sportsperson, inaugurated the tournament. The inaugural function was also attended by Raktim Saikia, president of All Assam Tennis Association and joint secretary of All India Tennis Association, Animesh Baruah, president JTC and Dr Narayan Bordoloi.

 The tournament attracted players from different parts of the State including Guwahati, Sibsagar, Golaghat, Bokaghat, NRL, ONGC besides Jorhat  and they are participating in the Men’s Doubles events of +35 years, +45 years, +55 years and +65 years.

Results of day I: +35 years (Doubles) 1st round: Bharat Kamble & Sheetal Mahendra bt Jyoti B Borgohain & Debojit Sharma (8-5), Anil Malani & Chandan Bajaj bt Saifur R Choudhary & Rajkumar Devandra (8-6), Aikya Thaimoung & Dr Diganta Sonowal bt. Peeyush Behati & Anand Rathi (8-4), Narendra Singh & Arvind Prabhat bt. Niruj Bora & Khadiz Huda (8-3).

+45 years (Doubles) 1st round: Lakhi Saikia & Ramesh Bitra bt. Tiken Ch Basumatary & Bipul Talukdar (8-4), Aikya. Thaimoung & Dr Diganta Sonowal bt Nazrul Hussain & Khadiz Huda (8-1). +55 years (Doubles) Quarter Final: Dr Bharat Phukan & Atiqur Rehaman bt. Tiken Ch Basumatary & A. Bordoloi (8-1), Shankar D. Lahkar & Dipak Das bt. Nazrul Hussin & Sanjib Saikia ( 8-3), Shantanu Thakur & Isanjyoti Bordoli bt. PG Agarwal & Chandra Kr. Barmon (8-7), Nabarun Saikia & Sujit Kakoty bt Dr Zakir Hussion & Dilip Somani (8-2).

+35 years (Doubles) Quarter Final: Priyanuj Lahkar & Rahul Rajkhewa bt Bharat Kamble & Sheetal Mahendra (9-0), Rajib Bora & Rajib Dutta bt Anil Malani & Chandan Bajaj (9-1), Dr Diganta Konwar & Bubuljyoti Das bt. +45 years (Doubles) Quarter Finals: Rajeev Bora & Rajiv Dutta bt Zakir Hussion & Saifur R.Choudhary (9-2), Dr Bharat Phukan & Atiqur Rahman bt Lakhi Saikia & Ramesh Bitra (9-2).
