Assam boxers Lovlina & Jamuna among top 10 in World Boxing Ranking chart

GUWAHATI: State boxers brought some good news for the sports lovers of the state amidst the lockdown.

Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro, two star boxers of the State, ranked themselves among the top ten in their respective categories in World Boxing Ranking chart. On the other hand Shiva Thapa also ranked among top 20 boxers in the male category.

The new ranking of the boxers was released by the International Boxing Federation today. Lovlina, who recently qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, ranked third in the list in 69kg category. Her teammate and World Elite Women medalists Jamuna Boro got 5th spot in the 54 kg weight category.

On the other hand Olympian Shiva Thapa, who participates in the 60kg category, now ranks 16 in the world ranking.

It may be mentioned here that it is the first occasion in the history of Assam Amateur Boxing Association that three of its boxers ranked among the top 20 list in World ranking.
