Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday, felicitated Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medallist Nayanmoni Saikia at his office. Felicitating the gold medalist with an Assamese jaapi, a xorai and a phulam gamusa, the Chief Minister lauded her indomitable spirit that led to her bringing glory and pride to the nation and the state. Sarma further assured her of all assistance and co-operation from the government on her endeavour to reach greater heights in sports.
Accompanied by her husband Bhaskar Jyoti Gohain and daughter Tanaya, the Commonwealth gold medalist's conversation with the Chief Minister ranged from her initial interest in lawn bowls to her experience at Birmingham, among others. During the discussion Sarma also approved her appeal to set up a new Lawn Ball court at upper Assam.
Mridul Borgohain, who was also a member of the Indian men's lawn bowls team in the Commonwealth Games, accompanied Nayanmoni during her visit to Chief Minister.
Later Lawn Bowling Association Assam (LBAA) also felicitated Nayanmoni and Mridul in a brief function held at Lawn Bowls Green at the Sarusajai Sports complex today. The function was attended by president and secretary of Lawn Bowling Association Assam Durga Das Boro and Nava Basumatari along with the other officials of the association.
