GUWAHATI The domination of Odisha against Assam in the Ranji Trophy tie continued on second day also. Host today bowled out 436 runs in their first innings and later reduced Assam to 59-3 in their first innings at stumps on day II. Visitors still needed 378 runs to put Odisha again.
Although Assam made good comeback in the game in the early part of the day but bowlers failed to hold the momentum which allowed Odisha to repair the damage and put a big total on the board. Odisha started the day’s proceeding from their overnight score 215-3 and quickly reduced 248-6.Pacer Ranjeet Mali gave the break through removing Govinda Poddar (58). Then Arup sent back Biplab Samantaray (37) and Rajesh Dhuper (13) in a gap of 24 runs. But thereafter Debabrata Pradhan and Suryakanta Pradhan made a solid partnership and took their team to a good position. The duo on the seventh wicket added 130 runs before the partnership was broken by Pritam Das on team’s total 378. Later tailenders too contribute well with the bat.
For Odisha, Abhishek (71) and Debabrata (79) scored half centuries today. Arup Das (4-101) and Ranjeet Mali (4-113) picked up four wickets each while Pridtam Das bagged the remaining two wickets in Odisha’s first innings.
Assam made a very poor start in their run chase and lost their first wicket in the form of Biplab Saikia who failed to open his account. Second opener Subham Mondal (12) followed him on team’s total 32. Later situation turned worst when captain Gokul Sharma (8) ran out himself. At stumps Rishav Das was batting on 24 and Riyan Parag (14) was giving him accompany.
