GUWAHATI: Assam Olympic Association today started the countdown of the forthcoming Assam Youth Olympic Games in a glittering function at the Bishnu Prasad Rabha Auditorium at the Cotton University here today. The competition will kick off in Guwahati on July 23.

A series event was organized today to mark the occasion which was attended by Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika as the chief guest along with vice chancellor of Cotton University Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, two promising athlete of the country Amlan Borgohain and Shivangi Sarma respectively, former first class cricketer Rajesh Bora, the secretary of the Assam Athletic Association Lakhya Konwar and a top official of NFR Rajib Mahajan. The theme song and the logo of the forthcoming championship along with official Jersey were launched in the function.

Meanwhile to mark the International Olympic Day Assam Olympic Association organized a Sports quiz and debate competition at the same venue. Gauhati Medical College, Tezpur University and Dibrugarh University finished first, second and third in the sports quiz competition. In the debate competition Cotton University, Bhattadev University and Gauhati University bagged first, second and third spot. Manoj Barua of Darrang College adjudged the best debater award.
