GUWAHATI: As a part of the National Sports Day celebration Assam Olympic Association today felicitated several State athletes along with veteran sports Journalists Premadhar Sharma. The function was held at the AOA Conference Hall situated at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium. Several top officials of the Assam Olympic Association attended the function.

Assam Olympic Association organized a brief function to mark the occasion. Altogether four sportspersons were felicitated in the function and they were boxer Lovlina Borgohain, fencer Kabita Devi, TT player Bardie Boro and swimmer Shivangi Sharma. Lovlina and Kabita didn't attend the function because of their prior engagement.

In a brief speech in the function the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar said, "In the recent past Assam has earned big fame in the sporting world for its great organizing skill. We are equally working to improve our sports infrastructure and to produce athletes in international standard."

He also announced: "Hockey India is interested to allot the World Youth Hockey championship, scheduled to be next year, to Guwahati. If everything goes according to the plan the tournament may be held in the city in October, 2021."

Sprint queen Hima Das also took part in the function through video conference.
