Assam Sports Journalists Association to set up sports library in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Assam Sports Journalists Association is all set to add another feather to its cap as far as serving the journalists fraternity of Assam is concerned. Having striven all these years for the physical well being of the journalists of the state, the Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) has of late undertaken an initiative to give a fillip to intellectual development of the scribes by setting up the first ever sports library in the state to archive sports literature, data and records. The library will also serve the purpose of a sports information center.

The Assam Sports Journalists Association has build up the necessary infrastructure at its office premises at the RG Baruah Sports complex for the said library and is going to inaugurate the same this month.

Further, the Assam Sports Journalists Association is going to soon reintroduce its annual sports awards for sportspersons. This year's awards are going to be conferred on the auspicious occasion of World Sports Journalists Day on July 2.

An Award Committee has been constituted with Subodh Malla Barua as chairman and Bidyut Kalita, Mridumoloy Lukhurakhon, Kausav Baruah and Prarthana Hazarika as members. The Committee will prepare a panel of nominees for different awards and all members of the Assam Sports Journalists Association will be eligible to vote to choose the award recipients.
