GUWAHATI: Assam stormed into the semi finals in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket defeating Kerala by 6 wickets in the second quarter final in Mohali today. Chasing 159 runs to win, Assam reached the target with 17 balls remaining.

In the run chase Assam never looked in trouble even though the side lost their first wicket on 6. Other opener Rishav Das (14) and Sumit Ghadigaonkar played well and added 69 runs in the second wicket that built the foundation. Later Sibsankar Roy (42no, 4X6, 6X1) ensured that Assam reached the target successfully.

In batting it was undoubtedly the day for Sumit Ghadigaonkar who played a brilliant knock of 75 runs from 50 balls. He also hit six boundaries and four over boundaries across the ground. Apart from Rishav, Ghadigaonkar also made a good partnership with Sib Sankar and their fourth wicket partnership produced 50 runs. Captain Riyan (12), who is in terrific form in the competition, however returned to the pavilion early today.

Earlier Akash Sengupta (3-30) and Mrinmoy Dutta (2-41) guided Assam to restrict Kerala 158-6 in 20 overs after they were invited to bat first. Salman Nizar (57no) and Abdul Bazith (54) were the major contributors.

Assam will now face Baroda on November 4 in the semifinal.
