GUWAHATI: The sports lovers of the State hardly believe that the event she represents in 3rd Khelo India Games can give any medal to Assam. However, Upasha Talukdar, a class VII student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Borsajai, has come out with a stunning performance by winning three medals which included one silver. In a conversation with The Sentinel Upasha, who won one silver (Ball) and two bronze (Rope and All round) medals shares her experience and future plan. Here are the excerpts:
The Sentinel (TS): Three medals in a competition. How do you feel?
Upasha Talukdar (UT): Oh! It is fantastic. Can’t describe it in word.
(TS): What was your target in the competition?
(UT): I was targeting a medal in the championship but never thought I would win three medals in the tournament.
(TS): How did you prepare yourself for the Games?
(UT): I gave lot of time in my training. I have kept myself busy for nearly four to five hours every day to win a medal in the Games. I should give thanks to the Principal of my School-Maharishi Vidya Mandir of Borsajai-who gave me good support and allowed me to concentrate only in training.
(TS): The competition was held in your home town. Did it help you?
(UT): Yes. A lot. When I go to take part in the competition in other states I hardly get any one who can speak Assamese with me. Here entire gallery cheered for me. Thanks to all.
(TS): What is your next target?
(UT): I want to win more and more medal from national and international championships. However ultimate target is a medal from Olympic.
