Chhattisgarh upset Mumbai in Mushtaq Ali Cricket

Chhattisgarh made a huge upset in a group 'B' match of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket at the Nehru stadium here today. The side, in a well contested game, defeated Mumbai by a single run. It was the first victory for Chhattisgarh in the competition.

GUWAHATI: Chhattisgarh made a huge upset in a group 'B' match of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket at the Nehru stadium here today. The side, in a well contested game, defeated Mumbai by a single run. It was the first victory for Chhattisgarh in the competition.

Chasing 158 runs for victory Mumbai once looked in good position as captain Ajinkya Rahane was nicely cruising his team towards the victory. But Rahane, scored 69 (55 balls, 4X6, 6X2), when got out on the first ball of the final over bowled by Sourabh Majumdar, Chhattisgarh grabbed the opportunity nicely. Mumbai required 8 runs in the final over and they managed to score 6. SD Lad (46) was the other major contributor for Mumbai.

Earlier rode on two half centuries from A Herwadkar (53) and Shashank Singh (57) Chhattisgarh, elected to bat, scored 157-7 in their 20 overs.

In the other two matches of the day held at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara Bengal and Karnataka registered victories. Karnataka in the first game defeated Baroda by 7 wickets while Bengal thrashed Services by 9 wickets.
