Dibrugarh: Chief Minister Sarbananda
Sonowal, during his recent tour to Dibrugarh, inaugurated Rs. 65 lakh worth
Dibrugarh District Tennis Club at a function held here. Chief Minister Sonowal
said that with the inauguration of the state-of-the-art tennis court would
fulfil the long pending demand of tennis lover of Dibrugarh. Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal
disclosed that a Sports University will shortly be set up at Chabua in
Dibrugarh District. The Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for the proposed
university has already been appointed and
work are being undertaken on war footing to start the university
Terming sports an automatic stabilizer and a great equalizer, Chief Minister Sonowal urged upon the youths to take sports as a career and urged the parents to imbibe love for sports among their wards.
He also said that as a part of his government's aim to make Guwahati the sports capital and Assam as a sports hub his government has been taking a number of measures to develop sports infrastructure in the state along with organizing national and international level sports events in several sporting venues across the state. Inauguration of Dibrugarh District Tennis Club would certainly pave the way to promote lawn tennis in upper Assam, especially in Dibrugarh.
He also called upon the budding lawn tennis players to utilize the facilities in the tennis club to practice dedicatedly. Discipline, devotion and dedication shown towards their sports would help them to become a competent lawn tennis player in the years to come.
Chief Minister on this occasion also felicitated Pankaj Konwar, a lawn tennis coach who has been coaching the grassroots level players in lawn tennis and promoting the sports in the state. Sonowal also played lawn tennis with the budding players on the occasion.
