Dibrugarh: With the aim to promote sports among students, a mini-marathon competition was held here on Thursday under the aegis of Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Government of Assam, and with support from Dibrugarh district administration.
The mini-marathon was flagged off by Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan from Chowkidinghee in the presence of Lahoal MLA Rituparna Baruah; Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha; District Development Commissioner Sanjoy Dutta; District Sports Officer Dhrubajyoti Deka and others. Earlier, in his speech, Phukan urged people to take up running as a sport and a hobby, and to live a healthy life.
The mini-marathon began from Chowkidinghee to Phoolbagan via Thanacharali, Khalihamari, Naliapool, Graham Bazar and ended at Chowkidinghee again. The competition was held in the 12-km category among boys and girls below 17 years and saw the participation of around 100 boys and girls. Prizes were distributed to the winners in both the categories during the concluding function in the presence of guests. The event was also supported by Dibrugarh District Sports Association, District Judo Association, Dibrugarh District Karate Do Association and Upper Shuttlers Academy, Dibrugarh.
