Dibrugarh: The two-day long Dibrugarh University Inter College Chess Competition concluded at DHSK Commerce College today. A total of 31 competitors including 9 girls from 10 institutions participated in the event. Abhilash Dutta of DHSK College and Twinkle Patgiri of G. S. Lohia College were adjudged best players in Men’s and Women’s section respectively. Dhrubajyoti Borthakur of Dibrugarh University, Abhishek Borthakur of Jorhat College, Swapnanil Saikia of J. B. College and Debanga Das of Dibrugarh University bagged 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th position respectively in Men’s section. In women’s section, Stutirani Gogoi and Ankita Bhorali—both from J.B. College, Kangkana Gogoi from Sivasagar College and Bismita Lahon from Dibrugarh University obtained 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th position respectively. The competition was supervised by Deepjyoti Das, sports officer, Dibrugarh University.

The award conferring function was chaired by Dr. K. M. Bhagawati, principal of the college, which was graced by Satya Changmai, Asstt. professor, Centre for Physical Education & Sports, D. U as well as Bipul Chutia , representative of D. U Sports Board, Prasanta Das, vice-principal along with Bipul Das-chief arbitrator as well as Rajneesh Verma, arbitrator. Prasanta Das, vice-principal cum co-ordinator of the competition, while delivering his speech, urged the gathering to make sports a part of life. Bipul Das, chief arbitrator of the competition, in his speech shared his experiences throughout the competition and asked the competitors to always maintain the sportsmen’s spirit.

During the function, Subartha Gupta, Chinmoy Bora and Tarik Das—students of the host college were also felicitated for their achievement in recently concluded D. U inter college Badminton Tournament. The team comprising of the trio adjudged as the champion in the group event for boys’ in the said tournament. On the other hand, the first duo was adjudged as the 1st and 3rd best player respectively in the single event for boys’ in the tournament. Dr. Jecob Konwar, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Accounting and Finance anchored the function while Dr. Kasturi Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Management offered the vote of thanks.
