Elvis Ali Hazarika Eying To Cross Irish North Channel

GUWAHATI: Renowned swimmer of the state Elvis Ali Hazarika, who recently crossed Catalina Channel, has set another new target. This time he plans to cross Irish North Channel in July next year and during this expedition he will also spread awareness to save the endangered species of the one horn rhino.

Talking to the media persons here today the former international swimmer said, “I have planned to cross all seven channels of the world. A few months back I crossed Catalina and now target to cross Irish North Channel and Rimo Saha, who swum with me at Catalina, will be my relay partner here also. We will jointly cross the channel.” Rimo was too present in the media briefing.

Elvis today also disclosed their plans and routes for the forthcoming expedition. The duo will start swimming from Ireland and will reach Scotland covering a distance of 42 kms. Total expenditure of this expedition is around Rs 12 lakh and the former international medal winner said that unless there is help from different quarters it wouldn’t be possible to fulfill his dream this time.

Commenting on the preparation Elvis said, “Water in the North Channel is very cold and we need to accustom with this low temperature very quickly. So we have planned to go Nainital during November and swim in Bhimtal lake where the temperature during winter reduces to such a point which is close to the temperature at Irish North Channel.”
