Former first class cricketer of Assam Pradip Phukan, who also represented the State in the Santosh Trophy Football tournament, passed away in a city nursing home today after prolonged illness.

GUWAHATI: Former first class cricketer of Assam Pradip Phukan, who also represented the State in the Santosh Trophy Football tournament, passed away in a city nursing home today after prolonged illness. He was 87 years old and left behind wife and daughter.

Phukan, popularly known as Tikori, made debut in Ranji Trophy in 1957-58 season and altogether played 10 matches for the State. He also turned out for Assam in the Santosh Trophy Football Tournament during the 1960s.

The members of the All Assam Sports Pensioner’s Association along with Assam Cricket Association, Gauhati Sports Association, Gauhati Town Club and Veteran Cricket Association of Assam condoled the death of Phukan.

In a condolence message the All Assam Sports Pensioner’s Association recalled his enormous contribution to the Association since its beginning to date. The Assam Cricket Association also in a statement acknowledged Phukan’s remarkable contribution in both cricket and football.
