Gauhati Sports Association urges Borah to develop more grounds

The officials of the Gauhati Sports Association (GSA) today urged the Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Bimal Borah to develop practice grounds in and around the city for the betterment of football and other games. They also assured full cooperation to the minister in this regard.

GUWAHATI: The officials of the Gauhati Sports Association (GSA) today urged the Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Bimal Borah to develop practice grounds in and around the city for the betterment of football and other games. They also assured full cooperation to the minister in this regard.

Delegation of Gauhati Sports Association, led by its president Munin Nobis, today met the Sports Minister in his office chamber. During the meeting they also felicitated Borah.

Talking to The Sentinel the secretary of the Gauhati Sports Association Dhruba Jyoti Kalita, who was also part of the delegation said, "Our local clubs have been suffering a lot because of sufficient number of grounds in the city. Even sometimes we have to struggle to get Nehru stadium to organize the local football League as per our schedule. So we have requested the Minister to take steps in this regard."

Kalita said, Borah is keenly interested in finding a permanent solution to this problem. "Sports Minister has taken the matter very seriously and advised us to identify the grounds which are available in the city. He will later organize a joint meeting with the authorities of those grounds and will try to make a permanent solution of this problem. The Minister also assured us that once grounds will be available the Sports Ministry will take the initiative to develop those grounds," added the secretary.
