GUWAHATI: If everything goes according to the plan then Guwahati may host a couple of IPL matches next year. The secretary of the Assam Cricket Association Devajit Saikia revealing the news to the media said that Rajasthan Royals are interested to bring a couple of their home matches to Guwahati and the plan is on right track.
Last season also ACA stadium, Barsapara was selected as possible venue by Rajasthan Royals as well as KKR for their few home ties. However the city narrowly missed the opportunity on that occasion.
Talking to the media person at the ACA conference hall Saikia today said, “A meeting of all IPL franchises was held during the ICC world Cup in London recently. During the meeting we had got the opportunity to speak with the officials of the Rajasthan Royals and they showed keen interest to bring a couple of IPL matches to ACA stadium Barsapara. There are reasons also as our local boy Riyan Parag is part of Rajasthan Royals team and city cricket fans always make good show when there is a top level cricket match in Guwahati. We are very much optimistic that Rajasthan Royals will make formal announcement in this regard very soon.”
Saikia also added: “Rajasthan Royals has planned to start six cricket academies in different parts of the country and they are interested to bring one in Guwahati..
