Guwahati: Nihad Islam Hazarika on Sunday clinched the title in Rapid Chess Tournament organized by Guwahati Chess Academy on 15th May 2022 at Academy premises at R G Baruah Road, Guwahati.

Nihad scored 5.5 points from 6 rounds and remains unbeaten throughout the tournament. In the final rounds, he beat Rishav Barman.

Nalinakhya Kashyap got the second position by scoring 5 points. However, Prakash Nath, Jagajit Sinha and Subhangpran Kashyap also scored 5 points each but placed third, fourth, and fifth according to their tie-break score.

Dhanyata Goswami got the first position in the under-7 category by scoring 3 points. Divyansh Deb also scored 3points but he was declared second on the basis of the tie-break score.

Praharsh Choudhury got the third position in this category with 2 points.

In the under-9 category, Agnij Bora scored 4 points and got the first position while Hriyan Kaushik Thakuria and Neehar Das both scored 3 points each and were declared second and third respectively on the basis of their tie-break score.

Swapnil Kar got the First Position in the under-11 category as he scored 4 points. Nibhriti Goswami scored 3 points and got the second position in this category.

Shaunak Bhowmick also scored 3 points and got the third position on the basis of the tie-break score.

Shivam Dutta scored 4 points and got the first position in the under-13 category while Suhan Pati also scored 4 points but he was declared second on the basis of the tie-break score.

Pratyush Pathak got the third position by scoring 3.5 points in this category.

Chiranjib Goswami got the first position by scoring 4 points in the under-15 category and Jyon Jyotishman Saikia got the second position in this category by scoring 3 points.

Altogether, 41 players, including 6 International Fide Rated players participated.

The tournament was conducted in the Swiss league system for 6 rounds.

The top five players were awarded cash prizes and trophies.

Senior National Arbiter Pranab Kumar Nath conducted the tournament as Chief Arbiter and he is ably assisted by Kh Jintu Singha as Deputy Arbiter.
