GUWAHATI: A consistent performance throughout the tournament helped Sarupam Purkayastha of Bud Cricket Club to win player of the tournament award in the Assam Premier Club Championship which concluded at Dibrugarh on Saturday. In a conversation with the Sentinel today after the final Sarupam took a few questions related to his performance in the meet and other issues. Here is the excerpt.
The Sentinel (TS): This time it's a good tournament for you.
Sarupam: Yes. Before the start of the meet I was working hard to perform consistently in the championship and it is nice to see that I have finally managed to win the player of the tournament award.
TS: What was your target at the initial stage of the meet?
Sarupam: Just go into the ground and play good cricket. Last time I turned out for Club Triranga. However this year I joined Bud Cricket club and honestly speaking I worked very hard to get success. I am happy that I have scored nearly 500 runs in the tournament and also took 16 wickets. I am taking this opportunity to thank the officials of the Bud Cricket Club for providing us with different facilities time to time.
(TS): How was the level of the tournament this time?
Sarupam: I feel it was very good. You know teams of Guwahati are always well balanced and you have to play good cricket to beat them. Now the teams in the other parts of the State are also equally growing up and started to play competitive cricket. Good contests were witnessed in several matches.
(TS): It's a very long tournament. Do you feel that staying focused throughout the meet was a little bit challenging?
Sarupam: I don't think in this way. Every competition is equally challenging for a professional cricketer and he has to get ready for it.
(TS): There is no Ranji trophy this time. So what is your 'off season' plan?
Sarupam: My plan is very simple. Work hard and get ready for the next season. I have already chalked out various plans and will work according to it on my fitness as well as in the net.
