GUWAHATI: Cricket fans of the city witnessed a historic moment as the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy visited Guwahati on Wednesday. It was the maiden occasion when the iconic trophy toured the city.

The Trophy was formally unveiled by BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saikia in the gathering of cricket lovers and young crickets at the ACA Stadium Barsapara this afternoon. Former captain of Assam Ranji Trophy team Badal Thakur was also present at the Stadium along with ACA president Taranga Gogoi and its secretary Tridib Konwar.

It may be mentioned here that the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy tour started on June 27 and has already visited several cities in India and other parts of the globe.

Addressing the media after unveiling the trophy the joint secretary of BCCI Devajit Saikia said, “We are extremely honoured and excited to have the trophy in Guwahati. It’s a proud moment for us.” Apart from ACA Stadium, the trophy was also displayed at the South Point School today.

Meanwhile, sharing information about the forthcoming warm up match of the ICC World Cup, scheduled to be held in Guwahati, Saikia said “ The main venue and the training facilities are ready to be used. Teams will start training on September 28 at the practice arena of the ACA Stadium, Barsapara and at the Amingaon Cricket Ground.”

Guwahati will host 4 warm matches involving India, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh on September 29 at the ACA Stadium and India to play against England on September 30. The remaining two matches would be held on October 2 (England v Bangladesh) and October 3 (Afghanistan v Sri Lanka).

The ticket price for those games has been fixed at Rs 200 (for students), Rs 300, Rs 500, Rs 700 and Rs 1000.
