India vs Sri Lanka: Assam Cricket Association optimistic about full house on Sunday

GUWAHATI: Its less than 48 hours left for the T20I between India and Sri Lanka at the ACA stadium Barsapra, but still nearly 12,000 tickets have still remained unsold. However the officials of the Assam Cricket Association felt that the scenario will be changed dramatically as both the teams are now in the city and they are expecting full house on Sunday evening.

Addressing a media gathering today at the ACA stadium, Barsapara the secretary of the Assam Cricket Association Devajit Saikia said, “The capacity of the stadium is nearly 39,400 and 27,000 tickets are already sold out. Both the teams have reached the city and festive season is also over. We are expecting full house on match-day and remaining tickets too will be finished by tomorrow.”

Guwahati is always regarded as familier venue from the point of spectators turn out and both the earlier Internationals, hosted by the ACA stadium, witnessed full house. Good turn-out was seen in front of the stadium this afternoon which could bring the smile to the faces of the ACA officials. Some Indian players including captain Kohli and come-back boy Jasprit Bumrah arrived this evening at the stadium for a brief training session and a big crowd welcomed them in front of the main gate.

It may be mentioned here that members of the Indian team today arrived in the city in different batches and assembled in the hotel. Later they arrived at the stadium for light training session. However Sri Lanka team spent the day at the hotel and will make first visit at the stadium tomorrow morning.

Saikia added: “The game is very important for ACA as Rajasthan Royals already approved three of their home matches of forthcoming IPL in Guwahati. We will take every step to make the game a grand success. Apart from the match, crowd will also witness some entertaining programmes on Sunday night including display of fire crackers etc.”

Meanwhile city today witnessed light drizzle in the morning and the weather forecast reveals rains on Sunday evening also. When the point is raised Saikia said, “ACA stadium is well equipped to handle this type of situation.”

When asked whether there would be any refund of ticket price if no play condition on Sunday he said: “Necessary arrangements have been made with the insurance company and we will go as per the law.”
