GUWAHATI: Assam suffered a massive 8 wickets defeat to Jharkhand in their second game in the Vijay Hazare Cricket in Kolkata today. Invited to bat, Assam were bowled out 163 in 30.4 overs and Jharkhand chased the target in 35 overs losing 2 wickets.
Invited to bat first, Assam struggled throughout the innings as they lost wicket on regular intervals. Except Sibsankar Roy and Rajjakuddin Ahmed no other batsmen of the side were able to contribute a good score on the board.
Assam lost both the openers-Sarupam Purkayastha (11) and Rahul Hazarika (12) when the score was 29. Subham Mandal (12) and Riyan Parag (14), who scored centuries in the last game, also weren't able to produce good scores from their bats. However a good partnership between Sibsankar and Rajjakuddin made the scoreboard a little respectable. The duo on the 7th wicket partnership added 54 runs after captain Kunal Saikia (0) and Rishav Das (6) got out quickly. Sibsankar played 55 balls to score 36 with the help of five boundaries. Rajjakuddin scored 27 with the help of one boundary and one over boundary.
Vivekanand Tiwary was the most successful bowler for Jharkhand and he finished his spell with 4-42.
In the run chase, Mukhtar Hussain put pressure on Jharkhand picking the wicket of opener Nazim Siddiqui (10) early but the second partnership between Utkarsh Singh (83 no) and captain Virat Singh (50) took the match away from Assam. The batsmen on the second wicket partnership put 106 runs on the board.
