GUWAHATI: Head Quarter Zone thrashed Lower Assam Zone by a huge margin of 279 runs in the opening game of the Kanaklata Baruah Inter-Zonal State Women's Cricket Championship held at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati today. The match witnessed two good performances from winning team members Swapna Choudhury and Nirupama Baro. Swapna scored a century (107) While Nirupama bagged 6-6 in her six overs spell.
Earlier the championship was inaugurated by the president of the Assam Cricket Association Romen Dutta in presence of secretaryDevajitSaikia and others.
In his brief speech president, Romen Dutta highlighted the unflinching commitment of the current Apex Council of Assam Cricket Association towards the development of the game of Cricket in the State. Speaking on the occasion secretary DevajitSaikia said that it is a much-needed and much-awaited step to encourage the young enthusiastic girls of the State to take up the sport in a professional manner and exhibit their talent and skills. He, during his address, also urged all the participants of the 6 different zones of the State to take the tournament seriously and put their best foot forward as their performances in the tournament will be taken into consideration by the Selection Committee while selecting the State team for the BCCI meets.
