GUWAHATI: Continuing their stunning performance Lakhimpur prevailed over Silchar by 9 runs to assure themselves a place in the final, which will be against Kamrup, in the 11th Veteran Inter District & Inter Institution Invitational T-20 Cricket Tournament at Mangaldai on Monday.
Defending a modest total 102, the in-form Lakhimpur bowlers produced yet another spirited bowling effort.
Sent into bat, the Upper Assam side lost vital wickets in first two balls before losing the third in the 4th over. Gautam Saikia (18) and Istak Ahmed Baruah (17) added a few runs for the fourth wicket before the latter was cleaned up. Towards the end, Rituraj Barpatra Gohain (17) and Javed Khan (19no) hit some crucial runs. Niranjan Das (2/9) and Nihar Paul (2/12) were the successful bowlers for Silchar.
In reply, Silchar also lost wicket in first over. They should consider themselves lucky some catches were put down, but failed to capitalise on the chance as their run rate began to go down. They needed 18 runs off the last two overs but Javed Khan (2/12) and Rituraj came up with superb death bowling display to concede just 8 runs and seal yet another win for their side. Spinner Jintu Bania claimed two vital wickets for 15 in the middle overs.
The final will be held on Wednesday.
