GUWAHATI: Mrinmoy Rajkhowa of Assam bagged second position in National Online U-10 Open Chess Championship held between June 22-24. Mrinmoy scored 9.5 points out of a possible 11 points and tied for first place with Kshatriya Nitin Vekhande of Maharastra who also scored the same points. But Mrinmoy was declared second on the basis of tie-break score.
Altogether 774 players from all over the country participated in the tournament. Mrinmoy remained unbeaten throughout the meet, won 8 games and drew 3. He collected a cash award of Rs 21,000.
With this performance Mrinmoy secured his berth in Indian team to participate in The FIDE Online Cadets and Youth Rapid World Cup-2021 scheduled to be held in August.
