GUWAHATI: The head coach of North East United FC Robert Jarni today assured the fans that the team will not only try to repeat the last year performance but will also make an attempt to better the result this time.

NEUFC, the lone team from North East in the ISL, will start their journey in the 2019 season with an away match on October 21 against Bengaluru FC.

Last season NEUFC made a terrific performance and finished among the top four teams of the meet. Till date it is the best ever performance in the ISL by the local outfit.

Talking to the media persons during the NEUFC’s media day here today the head coach Robert Jarni said, “It’s a new team. The players in our squad are young and promising. We also have some quality foreigners. I am happy with the young players as well as the foreign players. So I can assure you that we will work hard and try to go beyond the last four stage this season and I belief it is possible.”

Talking on his experience about his team’s last night friendly against the Indian National Team Jarni said, “It’s a good game for us. My boys got good practice match and we also find out the areas where we need further improvement. We will work on it during our next training sessions.”

New foreign recruit Asamoah Gyan, who roped in by NEUFC as a replacement Nigerian Bartholomew Ogbeche, felt the side had the potential to perform good in the competition. In a brief interaction with media Gyan, who joined the team 10 days back, said, “I have seen my team, There are a few very good junior players in our squad and they can really play good soccer.”

Commenting on his own possible performance in the League Gyan said, “Honestly speaking I am not 100 percent fit right now. There is still some time left before the season start and I am optimistic that I would be in proper shape during that time.”

Gyan, who represented Ghana thrice in the World Cup and also wrote his name in record book in 2006 FIFA World Cup scoring the fastest goal of the competition, also added: My job is to score goal and I will try my best to do it. Only thing I need is some support from my teammate in the middle.”Goalkeeper Pawan Kumar and former Shillong Lajong’s player Tlang Redeem also attended the media day function along with support staffs.

Meanwhile NEUFC today announced the price of the tickets for their home matches. There will be three types of tickets for the general category and these are: Rs 200, Rs 250 and Rs 500.
