GUWAHATI: The president of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Narinder Dhruv Batra is expected to visit the city shortly. The trip is connected with the FIH Junior Men's Hockey World Cup.

Guwahati is shortlisted as the venue for the next edition of the FIH Junior Men's Hockey World Cup which is scheduled to be held in October, 2021.

The Secretary of the Assam Hockey and Treasurer of Hockey India Tapan Das talking to The Sentinel said, "FIH Junior Men's Hockey World Cup is a huge tournament and most of the top teams of the world will participate in it. As per the latest information Guwahati is all set to host the meet. President of International Hockey Federation (FIH) Narinder Dhruv Batra, who is also the president of the Indian Olympic Association, will visit Guwahati shortly. During the visit he will inspect the infrastructure in Guwahati and is expected to meet Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to discuss about the competition related matter."

Das feels if Guwahati hosts the event it will bring a major change in the game in the state. "The infrastructures will be up graded and state players will get the chance to use it for their training. Our local coaches and officials would also be benefitted by discussing different aspect of the game with the experts of the participating teams," added the secretary.
